National Geographic launches short VR film to increase human environmental awareness

The number of elephants in the Garamba National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is declining due to threats from organized and "armed to teeth" poachers. To this end, "National Geographic" launched a new virtual reality short film, hoping to use this to raise people's awareness of protection and raise fundraising.

The Protectors: Walk in the Rangers Shoes will premiere at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. The short film was directed by Kathleen Bigelow, Academy Award-winning director and filmed in VR format. In the film, the audience will feel the life of the gardeners in the Garamba National Park.

Rachel Webber, deputy director of digital products at National Geographic, said: "National Geographic has been protecting our planet for over 129 years and has inspired people through text, images, videos, and current VR. The same thing, "The Protectors" will send the audience to the core of the ivory conflict and witness the struggle between destruction and protection."

Catherine Bigelow said: "As the last line of defense between endangered wildlife and extermination, the world's gardeners are truly unsung heroes. With the help of National Geographic and African national parks, The Protectors “We have provided an opportunity for us to learn about the courageous gardeners in the Garamba National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The ivory is poaching and their work is fraught with danger. Without them, the elephant will absolutely Completely extinct. They are risking their lives every day to protect the wildlife on our planet. But all this cannot be done by them alone. Elephants and gardeners all need your help."

After completing the premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, "The Protectors" will land on the Within VR content platform on May 1st, and then go online on Facebook and YouTube from May 8.
