Cypress Introduces TMA140 TrueTouch® Controller for Mobile Phones

21ic Cypress Semiconductor has introduced the TMA140 TrueTouch® controller for lower cost handsets. This new family of products offers high-performance touchscreen control for up to 5-inch screens, including multi-finger control support and the industry's best signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In addition, the new controller supports Cypress's patent-pending Charger ArmorTM feature, which uses adaptive frequency hopping techniques to avoid false touch problems caused by additional noise from the charger.

The new TMA140 Series delivers high-performance multi-touch capabilities within the budget of a feature phone. This low-power series not only controls the accuracy to within 0.5 mm, but also offers a variety of gesture control functions, and works perfectly with the Android system, and is currently in volume production.

The TMA140 is designed to work seamlessly with Cypress's single-layer, stand-alone multi-touch sensor SLIM®. SLIM is a true single-substrate single-layer ITO touch screen sensor. Unlike competing solutions, it does not require additional insulation or bridges, which reduces cost by approximately 40% compared to multi-touch sensors and significantly reduces sensor module thickness. The perfect combination of TMA140 and SLIM brings the lowest cost multi-touch solution to the market, enabling the cost budget of feature phones to support multi-touch functionality.
