Synopsys integrates VESA display stream compression into DesignWare MIPI DSI IP to support 4K Ultra HD and higher resolution

Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS) today announced the availability of the Integrated DesignWare® MIPI DSI Host Controller IP with the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®) Display Stream Compression (DSC) encoder. Provide a complete IP solution for mobile applications, augmented reality/virtual reality and automotive SoCs. The IP supports ultra-high resolution quadruple HD or 4K video displays with 60Hz or higher refresh rates for faster frame response and higher display fluency. Integrated IP reduces the required memory size and reduces data transfer bandwidth, reducing power, area, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The DesignWare MIPI DSI Host Controller IP with VESA DSC Encoder and DesignWare MIPI D-PHY IP combine to provide designers with a complete, interoperable solution for integration into application processors.

According to Joel Huloux, Chairman of the MIPI Alliance Board of Directors, "New applications such as high-end smartphones and virtual reality/augmented reality, automotive infotainment systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are increasingly demanding 4K and higher resolution displays. The DesignWare MIPI DSI host controller IP with VESA DSC encoder can be configured from 1lane to 4lane, extending the total bandwidth of 4K resolution displays up to 30 Gbps. For more flexible implementation, the integrated DSC encoder supports 8-bit or 10-bit RGB format input and output per component and also supports one or more data slice transfers as defined by the VESA DSC specification. The DSC encoder is fully validated in a Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) environment and has been tested against the VESA DSC v1.1 C model using a comprehensive test image library that provides designers with a highly integrated, proven and low risk solution.
