New deployment in China with Semtech LoRa technology and LoRaWAN protocol

ThingParkTM China builds LPWAN IoT network on the “New Silk Road”

Camarillo, Calif., and Xi'an, China, August 2017— Semtech CorporaTIon (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading provider of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products and advanced algorithms, today announced the adoption of Semtech's LoRa® devices and radio frequency technology. The network based on the LoRaWAN protocol is being deployed in China. The first phase will build a test network covering 23 kilometers in the historical university center of the Silk Road in Xi'an. The new deployment is a commitment to the global expansion of the LoRaWANTM network, which uses Semtech's LoRa devices and technologies and provides two-way communication, security, mobility and precision positioning. A unique and unparalleled advantage, while other low-power wide area network (LPWAN) technologies do not provide a solution.

Signing Ceremony of ThingPark China and Xi'an Beilin District Government and Shaanxi Radio and TV Network Group

ThingParkTM China, jointly invested by AcTIlity and Ginko Ventures, will work with the Beilin District Government of Xi'an and Shaanxi Broadcasting Network Group to develop a scalable LPWAN network and interoperable Internet of Things (IoT) applications and services. The network will first be used for environmental monitoring and intelligent tracking, bringing potential, enormous social and economic benefits to the region.

“ThingPark China's successful launch of a LoRaWAN-based network using Semtech LoRa technology in China will drive innovation and increase efficiency while driving transformation in key markets including cities and environments,” said Mike Mulica, CEO of AcTIlity. “This network deployed in Xi'an is the first step towards a global cargo tracking and monitoring solution and will be supported by the Internet of Things.”

“By benefiting from Semtech's technology, ThingPark China will be a leading supplier to the IoT market in Greater China,” said Liu Bing, CEO of ThingPark China. “Using a network based on Semtech LoRa technology will expand the reach of IoT applications and enable innovation in multiple markets while addressing practical challenges including water conservation, child and elderly tracking.”

AcTIlity Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Olivier Hersent interviewed

"Deploying a LoRaWAN-based network in China proves that Semtech's LoRa technology has evolved to be the driving force behind the IoT industry," said Marc Pegulu, vice president and general manager of the Wireless and Sensing Products Group at Semtech. "The adoption of this technology will help China accelerate the popularity of its IoT applications and begin to address the practical challenges in multiple industries such as smart cities, smart meter reading and smart agriculture."
