Skyworth LCD TV 42E65SE (8R68) motherboard repair examples - appliance repair - Huaqiang electronic network

A customer sent a Skyworth LCD TV model 42E65SE for repair. The TV would not turn on — no light and no sound. After opening the case, I checked the power supply and tested the backlight board interface by pressing the remote's standby button multiple times. The BL terminal always showed 0V. Then, I measured the output voltage of the power board, which was normal. Next, I moved to the motherboard and checked the voltages: U24/3.3V was 3.38V, U20/1.2V was 1.29V, U18/1.8V was 1.79V, and U19/5.0V was 4.98V. I also checked the big chip RTD2692D (296-pin) for power, clock, and reset signals but found nothing suspicious. Initially, I thought the motherboard was fine. However, suddenly the TV turned on, the backlight lit up, and I could hear the boot music. I could even watch the program by connecting a video signal. At first, I thought it might be a software or FLASH issue, possibly related to the motherboard (model 5800-A8R632-0P20) or a virtual soldering issue with the RTD2692D. After re-soldering the large chip, I still felt uncertain. I tried turning the machine on several times, and it worked for a while, but after about two hours, it returned to the same problem. I decided to use an oscilloscope to check the LDO outputs on the motherboard. When I scanned U24, I found some noise, and the noise was even more significant when I moved the probe to U20. This indicated a power supply issue. I replaced the filter capacitors at U24 and U20 — originally orange capacitors of 100μF/16V, which were of poor quality. I replaced them with high-quality blue capacitors of 200μF/16V. After that, I checked again with the oscilloscope and found no more noise. The output voltages stabilized: U24 was 3.28V and U20 was 1.19V. I let the TV cool down for 2–3 hours, and then it booted up perfectly without any issues. The motherboard was fully repaired. I shared this experience here in hopes that it helps others facing similar problems.
