Digital-mode semiconductor device shipments exceed 1 billion

Analogix Semiconductor, Inc. announced that it has shipped more than one billion DisplayPortTM devices to the consumer electronics market. This important milestone highlights Silicon Graphics’s leadership in DisplayPort technology, which supports the interconnection of smartphones, tablets, and laptops with the latest high-resolution televisions, projectors, and monitors.

Analogix offers a variety of DisplayPort digital media chips and IP cores, as well as full custom application-specific chips for many of the world's leading electronic device brands, primarily for internal display controllers and external connector ports.

Kewei Yang, chairman and chief executive officer of Analogix Semiconductor, said that DisplayPort's recognition in the industry has been increasing. This is the main reason for the company's continued development in recent years. He said: “Using DisplayPort for internal and external screen connections has exceeded our expectations.” Yang said: “The growing demand for SlimPort®-based smartphones, tablets and notebooks has also boosted company sales. Continued growth."

Other mobile device manufacturers have introduced various shapes of SlimPort products, including the recent Amazon Kindle Fire HD series tablet and BlackBerry Passport smart phones.

With the release of DP Alternate Mode (based on VESA's recently released USB Type-C specification), various new possibilities for SlimPort transmitters have excited Analogix Semiconductor. Andre Bouwer, vice president of marketing at Analogix Semiconductor, Silicon Valley, pointed out: "Customers will use the SlimPort transmitter to support the Type-C-based DP Alternate Mode. In fact, DP1.3 based on Type-C USB interface is the only universally available device that can transfer 8K content. Consumer standards."

VESA introduced DP1.3 in August 2014, and the DisplayPort Alternate Mode specification was launched in September 2014.

The expanding SlimPort ecosystem includes a global network of parts partners that sells certified SlimPort adapters. The SlimPort adapters are fully certified and tested to ensure the highest product quality and support the interoperability of a full line of SlimPort mobile devices.

Another important growth driver for Analogix Semiconductor is the company's low-power, high-speed TCONs. In September, Analogix demonstrated its eDP TCON family of tablets and notebooks at the 2014 Intel Information Technology Summit (IDF), including its Ultra-HD resolution and PSR (panels). Automatically refreshing the ability of TCON, this product optimizes mobile display performance and extends battery life.
