Thai Deputy Prime Minister Yu Ji announced that it plans to launch 5G network in 2020

Xinhua News Agency, Bangkok, June 8 (Chen Jiabao) Thai Deputy Prime Minister Yu Ji announced at the "Huawei Asia Pacific Innovation Day" held in Bangkok that Thailand will be committed to the development of telecommunications infrastructure and plans to launch 5G networks in 2020.

Yu Ji said that step-by-step development of wireless networks is too slow for Thailand, and Thailand will implement 5G technology applications within two years. The National Broadcasting and Communications Commission, which is responsible for advancing 5G network applications, will discuss the development of 5G facilities with private companies.

The National Broadcasting and Communications Commission of Thailand has teamed up with domestic and international telecommunications companies since 2017 to hold regular 5G forums and create an atmosphere for Thai 5G applications. Committee Secretary Takong said that in the future, Thailand will hold a forum with internationally renowned telecommunications companies such as China Huawei and Sweden Ericsson.

The National Broadcasting and Communications Commission of Thailand plans to allocate 380 MHz of spectrum in four frequency bands by 2020 to ensure that Thailand's mobile broadband services have sufficient resources to operate smoothly.

Yu Ji said that in the past three years, Thailand's digital technology has developed greatly. The government has invested in the nationwide broadband network, submarine cable, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and big data. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand will promote the construction of submarine cables connecting Hong Kong and Thailand in China, making Thailand an Internet portal in Southeast Asia.

According to data from the National Broadcasting and Communications Commission of Thailand, the total number of mobile phone numbers registered in Thailand in 2017 was 121 million, and the number of Internet users exceeded 40 million.

Yu Ji believes that accelerating the construction of digital infrastructure will make Thailand's e-commerce development a big step, and will also promote Thailand's economic growth to break through 5%. Thailand should learn from China's successful experience in using digital technology to improve rural living standards, improve domestic education and health care, and narrow the gap between the rich and the poor.

It is reported that in 2017, Thailand's research spending accounted for 0.78% of GDP, and Thailand will increase this proportion to 1% this year.
