In the latest update from Netease Technology News on January 21, Feng Xing, Senior Vice President of LeTV Holdings and President of LeTV Mobile, announced that LeTV's total smartphone sales have now surpassed 5 million units, achieving this milestone in just eight months. This impressive growth highlights the brand's rapid expansion in the competitive mobile market.
LeTV's smartphone journey began in May of last year, and by the end of 2015, it had already sold over 4 million units. Now, with the release of models such as the Le 1, Le 1 Pro, Le Max, and Le 1S, the total sales of LeTV's super smartphones have reached a significant figure of 5 million.
Looking ahead to 2016, Feng Xing set an ambitious target, aiming for LeTV's smartphone sales to reach 15 million units next year. To meet this goal, LeTV Mobile plans to produce between 25 and 30 million units, signaling a strong push into the market.
Feng described this growth as "eating the tiger’s mouth," emphasizing that the market won’t easily accommodate such a large increase. He believes that LeTV's expansion will force some competitors to shrink or even exit the industry. As LeTV's sales move from one million to ten million units, it indicates that the company has moved beyond its niche and is now challenging mainstream manufacturers.
"2016 is a crucial year for LeTV," Feng said. "It could determine how far the company can go." He added that 2016 may mark a turning point in the mobile phone market, potentially leading to a reshuffling of the industry landscape.
Beyond setting sales targets, Feng also highlighted the importance of offline expansion. In 2016, LeTV plans to fully open up its retail channels, including the establishment of LePar stores. These stores will not only sell smartphones but also offer services similar to those of traditional TV LePar outlets, enhancing the brand’s offline presence.
Additionally, the overseas market is expected to be a key driver of growth. According to reports, LeTV has officially entered the Indian market, launching the Le Max and Le 1S there. LeEco also announced plans to build a network of 555 24/7 service centers across India and establish a research and development center in Bangalore. This center will focus on developing services for TVs, smartphones, accessories, music platforms, and cloud solutions, with over 1,000 employees working on these projects.
