This is a simple oscillator circuit that uses a crystal to generate a 50Hz frequency. It outputs a square pulse with a 50% duty cycle. This square pulse is used more often in inverters and precision clock displays. The oscillator consists of a 14-stage counter and oscillator chip CD4060, a dual J-K flip-flop CD4027, an operational amplifier LM324, and several discrete components.
The oscillator is made of a 3.2768MHz crystal and a resistor and capacitor connected to the corresponding pin of IC1 (CD4046). The resistor R1 is used to limit the power, and R2 is the bias resistor.
The 3.2768MHz oscillation frequency outputs 200Hz on the CD4060's 3 pin after 14 frequency divisions. This 200 Hz frequency is then divided by 4 using the double J-K flip-flop CD4027 to give an accurate 50 Hz frequency. Output from the (15) pin of the CD4027, and the (14) pin outputs a 50 Hz inverted signal. The duty cycle is 50%.
The 50Hz frequency output is buffered by the A1 and A2 op amps LM324 respectively. From its 1 pin and 7 feet, it can output two 50 Hz square wave signals with opposite phases.
