GE Lighting introduces a ring-shaped LED light with built-in Alexa voice assistant

In 2015, Amazon opened the "Alexa Voice Service" to third-party hardware manufacturers, offering a free API that allows developers to add Alexa voice services to their devices. Recently, GE Lighting has demonstrated a ring-shaped LED with built-in Alexa voice assistant.

Although the styling is modern and stylish, GE Lighting did not give it a fancy name, but simply classified it as a GEC series of LED lights. The LED light is similar in functionality to Amazon's Echo device, with a built-in microphone for listening to user voice commands and a speaker for replying. The voice command receiving and replying function of the LED light will be online at any time, and the user does not need to toggle the switch to enable the voice function, and only needs to call "Alexa" to call the voice service.

Like Alexa on Amazon Echo, the LED light's Alexa voice assistant can also provide users with wake-up functions, as well as read news, check weather, tell jokes and play music. Of course, users can also use Alexa to control the voice of some Alexa-compatible smart home devices in the home.

GE is currently showing that this LED light is still only a prototype, but it is said that it will not be too different from the final version of the mass production. GE plans to ship in the second quarter of 2017.
