How about Changan Ruixing S50? Appearance of household style, high space utilization, sufficient power, high maturity of the whole system

Even in today’s entry-level MPV market, selling a car with either space or a competitive price-to-performance ratio remains challenging, necessitating an upgrade in value proposition. This segment is still highly polarized. While family MPVs like the Baojun 730 struggle to match the space offered by traditional commercial vehicles, commercial MPVs such as the JAC Ruifeng M3 have ample space but often appear too utilitarian for household use. However, the Changan Ruixing S50 recognized this market gap and positioned itself as a product catering to both family values and commercial MPV space efficiency. Take a look at the Changan Ruixing S50. Its household-style appearance, high space utilization, sufficient power, comprehensive system maturity, and affordability make it feel more appealing than the Wuling Hongguang. The car’s exterior styling and size are its standout features. There are three versions of the Changan Ruixing S50: the S50V designed primarily for cargo use, the S50 for commercial and dual-purpose applications, and the S50T for personal and family use. The starting prices are estimated at 48,900 yuan, 59,900 yuan, and 69,900 yuan, respectively. The S50V and S50 share the same design, appearing quite practical. Meanwhile, the S50T, aimed at individual users, adopts a younger design approach, though the interiors are largely similar. During my experience with the S50, which targets the business and dual-use market, the car's appearance has moved far away from the bland look of commercial vehicles. It’s not flashy but won’t be embarrassing when used as a family car. The headlights also surprised me. Despite using halogen bulbs, which are standard for the category, they come equipped with lenses and a light level adjustment feature. High-end models even include daytime running lights. In terms of dimensions, the Changan Ruixing S50 measures 4600mm in length, 1770mm in width, 1855mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2850mm. These dimensions surpass those of the JAC Ruifeng M3, which leans more toward cargo use, making it versatile for everyday needs. The Ruixing S50 offers two tire sizes—205/60 R16 and 195/65 R15—and comes paired with two distinct styles of aluminum alloy wheels. The interior of the Changan Ruixing S50 leans heavily toward family car aesthetics. The central console aligns with modern consumer preferences, featuring a three-spoke steering wheel and dual-barrel instruments that add a youthful vibe. Most striking is the 10-inch multimedia screen, which integrates functions such as radio, Bluetooth, navigation, and air conditioning controls, giving it a high-tech appeal. Space utilization in the Changan Ruixing S50 is impressive. The car offers a 2+3+2 seating configuration, with generous headroom across all three rows, ensuring comfort during long drives. Legroom is also ample, even for taller passengers in the third row. For practicality, the Ruixing S50 also addresses the issue of transporting goods. The third-row seats don’t fold forward but instead fold out to the side, creating a flat trunk floor. Additionally, the trunk volume is larger than average for its class, with a low floor, making it convenient for moving objects. Power-wise, the Changan Ruixing S50 offers both 1.5-liter and 1.5-liter turbocharged engines, paired with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.5-liter engine produces up to 116 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-liter turbocharged version delivers 139 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque. During our test drive with the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and 5-speed manual transmission, the powertrain felt reliable and mature. Although power output was moderate, there were no surprises during regular driving, meeting consumer expectations. The gear ratios were well-defined, improving fuel efficiency at higher speeds, though the shift travel was slightly long, requiring some acclimation. The electric power steering was light and effortless to operate, and the tight turning radius was particularly impressive, allowing for easy maneuvering even in narrow spaces. The suspension setup of the test vehicle included a MacPherson strut front suspension and a leaf-spring rear non-independent suspension. The 1.5T model replaces the rear suspension with a five-link non-independent setup. Overall, the suspension provided a comfortable ride, softening impacts effectively without significantly jarring passengers or compromising cargo transport. In conclusion, the Changan Ruixing S50 aims to redefine the entry-level MPV market through its three distinct variants: the S50V, S50, and S50T. If successful, these models could attract numerous consumers based on their strengths alone. However, boosting brand awareness remains a challenge. With the official launch of the S50V and S50T, targeting three different market segments, I am confident that the Ruixing S50 will quickly establish a strong user base.
