suddenly! LeTV withdraws 670 million yuan from Cool emergency retreat

On a recent day, Coolpad announced that it had been informed by Leview Mobile HK Limited that the company had sold approximately 897 million shares to Vriage Ventures, representing 17.83% of Coolpad's total issued share capital. The transaction was valued at HK$0.9 per share, totaling around HK$808 million (approximately RMB 670 million). This move marks a significant shift in the ownership structure of the company.

Following the completion of this deal, Leview Mobile HK Limited's stake in Coolpad dropped from roughly 1.449 billion shares to about 551 million shares, reducing their ownership percentage from 28.78% to 10.95%. As a result, LeTV is no longer the largest shareholder of Coolpad, signaling a major change in the company's corporate landscape.

This development comes after a series of strategic moves by LeEco, which initially invested RMB2.18 billion in June 2015 to acquire 18% of Coolpad’s shares, becoming its second-largest shareholder. In June 2016, LeTV increased its stake to 28.90%, making it the top shareholder for a time.

During this period, Jia Yueting, the founder of LeEco, took an active role in Coolpad's governance and even appointed Liu Jiangfeng, the former president of Glory, as the company’s CEO. However, the relationship between LeTV and Coolpad has since faced challenges.

After Jia Yueting began acquiring more shares in Coolpad, the company’s stock price started to decline, leading to substantial losses on LeTV’s investment. It is reported that LeTV has invested nearly RMB3 billion in Coolpad over the years. This latest sale of 17.83% equity for only RMB670 million highlights the steep financial hit the company has taken.
