Austriamicrosystems introduces two single-chip active noise reduction solutions

A single-chip ANC solution with an integrated speaker driver chip detects and processes external noise through a microphone built into the headset, delivering a noise-reduction signal while amplifying the desired audio signal at a very low distortion level.

For the market of wired headsets, headsets and microphones, austriamicrosystems has a complete set of market-leading ANC driver chips. Now, with the release of the AS3421/22 product, austriamicrosystems has optimized the ANC solution for the wireless headset market. The RF channels between these wireless headsets and the host are mostly connected via Bluetooth.

Low power consumption and long battery life are especially important for wireless headsets. The fully analog design of the AS3421/22 is significantly more efficient than the DSP (digital) based speaker driver IC. In ANC stereo mode, it requires only 7 mA at 1.5 V and less than 1 μA in static mode. When the user selects only the play function, it will also switch to the non-ANC mode with ultra low power consumption.

In addition, the AS3421/22 products have different stereo output lines to meet the output requirements of a typical Bluetooth headset system single chip, plus superior noise reduction of more than 25 decibels to ensure the sound quality is perfect.

Austrian Microelectronics' AS3421 product noise reduction IC is packaged in 4mm x 4mm QFN24, while AS3422 is available in 5mm x 5mm QFN32.

Oliver Jones, Austrian marketing manager for microelectronics audio products, said: "Active noise reduction products have greatly improved the listening experience, but wireless headset manufacturers have not been able to put them into use because of cost, energy consumption, size, weight and other obstacles.
