When working with frequency converters, it's important to understand the ratings marked on the nameplate. These ratings provide critical information about the device’s performance and compatibility with connected equipment. The input and output ratings are particularly significant for proper selection and application.
1. Input Side Ratings
The input side of a frequency converter typically includes voltage and phase information. For small to medium-sized inverters, common input voltages are as follows (all line voltages):
- 1380V / 50Hz, three-phase – widely used in most industrial equipment.
- 2200 ~ 230V / 50Hz or 60Hz, three-phase – mainly found in imported systems.
- 200 ~ 230V / 50Hz, single-phase – commonly used in small devices and household appliances.
2. Output Side Ratings
The output side of an inverter has several key parameters that define its capabilities:
- Rated Output Voltage (UN): This is the maximum voltage the inverter can deliver. It usually corresponds to the motor's rated frequency and is often equal to the input voltage.
- Rated Output Current (IN): This represents the continuous AC current the inverter can supply. It is a crucial factor when choosing the right inverter for your system.
- Output Capacity (SN) in kVA: Calculated using the formula SN = √3 × UN × IN. This value reflects the apparent power the inverter can handle under normal conditions.
- Applicable Motor Power (PN) in kW: This indicates the maximum motor power (typically a 4-pole standard motor) that the inverter can drive within its rated current limits.
- Overload Capability: Most inverters allow for temporary overloads. Common specifications include 150% of IN for 60 seconds or 180% of IN for 0.5 seconds. For specific applications like fan and pump control, overload limits may be slightly lower, such as 120% of IN for 60 seconds.
Understanding these ratings helps ensure that the inverter is properly matched to the load, improving efficiency and reducing the risk of failure. Always consult the manufacturer’s data sheet for detailed specifications and recommendations based on your particular use case.
