Lenovo officially enters the consumer-level AR/VR market, two head-mounted displays debuted at the pre-IFA conference

Lenovo hosted a fall conference ahead of the 2017 IFA, unveiling several new products including the Motorola X4 smartphone, a refreshed lineup of YOGA laptops, and new VR and AR devices like the Lenovo Explorer and Lenovo Mirage. This marked Lenovo's entry into the consumer AR and VR markets. During the event, Lenovo also showcased their collaboration with Disney on an AR game titled "Star Wars: The Jedi Challenge," which was compatible with the newly launched Lenovo Mirage. The Lenovo Mirage, officially known as Morningstar, is an immersive AR device designed specifically to enhance the gaming experience of "Star Wars: The Jedi Challenge." By inserting a compatible smartphone loaded with the game into the Mirage headset, players can wield a physical lightsaber controller to engage in battles against virtual opponents. The controller itself is meticulously crafted to replicate the look and feel of a real lightsaber, complete with six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) tracking via a light source LED. To set up the device, users must first install the game app on their smartphone and place it inside the Mirage headset. A tracking beacon, included in the package, should be positioned on the floor to serve as a reference point for the system’s sensors to track the user’s movements. Once everything is in place, the semi-transparent visor features dual fisheye lenses that allow for inside-out positional tracking, enabling players to move around freely while staying immersed in the game world. The headset also integrates visible light tracking technology, ensuring precise alignment between the physical lightsaber and its virtual counterpart displayed on screen. Additionally, haptic feedback kicks in whenever players strike or block attacks, adding another layer of realism to the gameplay experience. A key highlight of the Lenovo Mirage lies in its ergonomic design. Two support arms extend downward from beneath the eyepiece onto the user’s cheeks, redistributing some of the device’s weight away from the forehead and onto these additional points of contact. This helps alleviate strain during prolonged usage sessions. Furthermore, the headset boasts compatibility with a wide range of smartphones, making it accessible to many existing users without requiring them to purchase new handsets. Sales commenced on September 1st across North America at a retail price of $199 USD. Beyond just "Star Wars: The Jedi Challenge," Lenovo plans to expand the Mirage platform further by partnering with Disney to create additional titles based on popular franchises such as Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man and Iron Man. These upcoming releases aim not only to enrich the overall ecosystem but also solidify Lenovo’s position within the burgeoning realm of interactive entertainment hardware. In parallel, Lenovo introduced another innovative product called the Lenovo Explorer, categorized under mixed reality (MR). Designed primarily for use alongside desktop PCs, the Explorer weighs approximately 380 grams and offers a field of view spanning 110 degrees. Its ergonomic build ensures long-term comfort even during extended gaming marathons. One standout feature of the Explorer is its reliance on inside-out tracking technology, eliminating the need for external sensors typically required by traditional VR systems. Instead, built-in cameras handle all necessary positional calculations internally, simplifying setup procedures significantly. Moreover, the Explorer operates seamlessly with a variety of high-performance PCs currently available on the market today, lowering barriers to entry for potential adopters interested in exploring virtual worlds. As part of Microsoft’s broader ecosystem initiative, the Explorer supports over 20,000 applications hosted within the Microsoft Store as well as numerous HoloLens-specific programs. Retail availability is scheduled for October, priced at $349 USD. Other notable announcements made during the conference included updates to the YOGA series laptops like the YOGA 920 and YOGA 920 Customized Edition, along with smartphones such as the Moto Z2 Force and Moto X4. Moving forward, VR Network remains committed to covering Lenovo’s ongoing advancements within both VR and AR spaces, so keep checking back regularly for future updates!

Heavy Duty Connector

Heavy Duty Connectors (HDC) provide extensive industrial inserts,

alternate or direct-current connectors for heavy-duty industrial applications; multi-pole connectors for use in electronic machinery, robots, electric panels, control equipment, power and control- or signal-circuit connectivity; enclosures for standard, harsh and EMC environments; plastic and metal cable glands. All products are designed with top-quality materials.

The principal HDC parts are comprised of die-cast aluminum alloy with either a polyester powder (nickel-plated for EMC versions) finish or a self-extinguishing thermoplastic. Coupling stability and accidental opening protection is achieved by two locking systems (mono-block levers in galvanized or stainless steel or springs and pegs in stainless steel). Sealing of dust, water and aggressive agents is assured with internal protective gaskets.
