Singapore develops graphene image sensor

A few days ago, researchers from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore announced that they have successfully developed an image sensor made of graphene.

This technology is 1000 times better than conventional CMOS or CCD sensors in capturing light under the same conditions and can have a profound effect on the entire photographic industry. The new sensor may first be applied to surveillance equipment and satellites, and eventually it will be popularized on digital equipment such as civilian cameras. However, the replacement cost will be about five times cheaper by then.

"Graphene" is a single-layered carbon atomic surface material that is stripped from a graphite material and is a two-dimensional structure of carbon. The thickness of this graphite crystal film is only 0.335 nanometers, and the 200,000 films are stacked together, and only one hair is thick. One of the most important properties of graphene is its electronic transport properties, which are considered to have a wide range of applications in transistors.
