Besides buying a genuine license directly from the official site, there are several other ways to get a legitimate copy of Windows 10, including upgrading from the Home edition to Professional or Enterprise. Upgrading from Windows 7/8 If you bought a laptop recently, it likely came pre-installed with Windows 10 Home Edition. However, older models—especially those from a few years ago or even over a decade—might have had Windows 7 or 8, either Home, Professional, or even Enterprise. In many cases, the product key was printed on the laptop or desktop casing. If you still have the original product key, you can activate your Windows 10 by entering it directly (right-click on "This PC" and select "Properties"). Even the Home edition can be upgraded to the Professional version through the same process. You can also use the Microsoft Easy Upgrade Tool (available at the official website) to upgrade from an already-activated Windows 7 or 8 system to the latest version of Windows 10 (such as version 1709, internal build 16299.19). Once the upgrade is complete, the system will remain activated automatically. Windows 10 Special Plan If none of the above methods work, there’s still one last option. Microsoft offers a special assistance program for eligible users. You can access this via the dedicated page and download the upgrade tool. Follow the instructions to register a new Microsoft account (do not use your old one), fill out some personal details, and activate your upgraded Windows 10. The downside is that you might encounter accessibility prompts that need to be manually disabled, and you may receive occasional emails from Microsoft support. Of course, if you want to upgrade for free, a little inconvenience is unavoidable. Another method involves using account privileges. After testing, logging into an existing Microsoft account on an already-activated Windows 10 machine (which records the activation info) and then signing in on the target device may result in successful activation.
