Millet VR (the official version) out of the box experience

I've always been eager to try something new, and this year I finally got my hands on Xiaomi's products. I had watched VR content online before, but only used a basic version mainly for watching movies. I've always wanted to play games and experience true immersion, so I was really excited to give it a try. Since I own a Xiaomi 6, I decided to go with the official Xiaomi VR version. ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/08/tdzddwt6i5fnnci8.jpg) *Taking a photo of the device* The design is simple yet elegant, giving off a strong technical vibe—just from the official images, it felt very futuristic and cool to carry around. The VR headset is designed like an open helmet, distributing the weight evenly across the front and back of the head. One of my favorite features is the adjustable headband that uses a plastic card slot to extend its lifespan. It’s both practical and clever. Unlike many other VR headsets that use elastic bands, this one has cooling holes in the eyecups, which help prevent the eyes from getting too sweaty in a confined space. ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/09/uotgt86kpt4o1f8j.jpg) Another thoughtful detail is the calibration point on the glasses. Sometimes when I watch a movie in the wrong posture, the image becomes blurry, but with this feature, I can just tap the screen and it automatically adjusts, making the experience much more comfortable. The sponge material is soft and skin-friendly, so I can wear it for half an hour without any discomfort. I wonder how it will feel after longer use. When I put on the VR, the phone displays the content, and if there's nothing in front of it, the screen automatically goes to sleep to save power. And when I take it off, it wakes up again—very convenient. ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/09/fh31z3zrw4454wa3.jpg) The controller has a touchpad and three buttons. The touchpad acts as a confirmation button, and the Bluetooth connection works smoothly. According to the official description, it includes a touch remote (for movement control), a 9-axis sensor (for vision tracking), a physical button, and two additional buttons. Overall, it's easy to use once you get used to it. At first, I found the touch screen and button presses a bit confusing, but it didn't take long to adapt. The left side has a return key and an app key, while the right side has the home key. The controller feels lightweight, and the overall build is made of ordinary plastic, which is fine for the price. ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/09/skmmwh8hjyy8tk5f.jpg) When I bought this product, I was mostly looking for an immersive gaming experience. The Xiaomi VR app was straightforward to set up, and the game environment felt quite realistic. However, the image quality wasn’t great—it looked grainy, and I’m not sure if it was due to the Xiaomi 6’s small screen. That was a bit disappointing. If I were using it for high-definition panoramic videos, the experience would be significantly reduced. Also, the headset doesn’t have a headphone jack, so sound has to come through the phone’s speaker or a Bluetooth headset. I hope the company improves this in the future. ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/09/a0aya3h9olgowylp.jpg) ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/08/ezwsajpyj2qlyluq.jpg) ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/09/kf800fdftmt1f99o.jpg) ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/09/avyvb4rqvb20j4zv.jpg) ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/08/w3n4h5z4sr1fri6z.jpg) ![Xiaomi VR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/17/00/09/gax5hfan9gafudi3.jpg) Overall, this is a solid entry-level VR headset. Its appearance is sleek and modern, offering a good upgrade from regular movie-watching. While the gaming experience still needs improvement, especially in terms of graphics and software support, I think it’s worth trying at this price point. It might be a pilot model, and the resources behind it aren’t fully developed yet, but the user experience is still enjoyable. For now, I’d say it’s a decent investment for anyone interested in VR.
