Freescale showcases the first QorIQ P1020 reference platform for 802.11ac

At this week's Interop exhibition, Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE: FSL) demonstrated the first QorIQ P1020 reference platform for 802.11ac, which not only provides "Gigabit wireless Wi-Fi", but also can be used in WLAN) products running application identification software required for security and core network offload, consolidating its leading position in the enterprise access point market.

This turnkey reference platform highlights Freescale's leading position in the field of wireless access. Market research company InfoneTIcs predicts that Freescale's wireless access business will achieve a compound annual growth rate of 12% in 2017. Eight of the top ten enterprise wireless access point device manufacturers have selected Freescale's QorIQ communications processors to support their solutions.

One of the key growth drivers for WLAN is the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) phenomenon. Enterprises and service provider networks need to manage known users and network visitors who may not have equal access to sensitive content. These access and quality of service (QoS) challenges and the stringent performance requirements of the gigabit 802.11ac technology, as well as the increasing access problems caused by the introduction of numerous personal wireless device access networks, have given WLAN equipment OEMs and networks Managers pose serious challenges.

Freescale's WLAN reference platform is able to grasp and respond to these challenges by combining highly advanced 802.11ac radio with Freescale's new VorTIQa application identification software (AIS), coupled with the excellent processing performance of the QorIQ P1020 communications processor. VorTIQa AIS (application identification software) can detect more than 1200 applications and is equipped with a full range of unique power distribution infrastructure.

The platform runs on Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) Linux and utilizes the multi-core QorIQ P1020 communications processor to reduce CPU utilization and provide optimal performance for application-level software differentiation.

Freeq ’s Vice President of Digital Network Business Product Management Tareq Bustami said, “Freescale ’s 802.11ac WLAN reference platform provides processing space to support real-world applications while achieving excellent 802.11ac performance. The platform offloads processing at the edge of the wireless network Intensive application identification tasks help to significantly reduce the bottleneck of the centralized 40 Gbps link, thereby optimizing and balancing the network load.
