The industry said that LED technology is about to enter the general lighting field, forming a huge industry of tens of billions of dollars.

Light-emitting semiconductor is a new type of solid-state light source. It has shown excellent energy-saving effects in special lighting fields. For example, landscape lighting can replace energy saving by 70%. Traffic light can replace incandescent light and save energy by 80%. With the continuous improvement of technology, large-size LCD TV backlights, automotive, commercial and industrial lighting have gradually become the main application areas of LED.

Combining its low power consumption and long life, under the global energy crisis and huge environmental pressure, semiconductor lighting has been recognized as an important way of energy saving and environmental protection, and it is expanding its application range at a faster speed. .

At present, the laboratory semiconductor lighting white light fixture has several times the luminous efficiency of incandescent lamps, reaching 150 lumens / watt -190 lumens / watt, and is expected to exceed fluorescent lamps in 2010, the energy-saving effect will be more significant.

It is estimated that China's lighting electricity accounts for 12% of the total electricity consumption. As long as one third of China's incandescent lamps are replaced by LEDs, the country can save 100 billion kWh of electricity every year.

At present, countries all over the world are occupying the commanding heights of the emerging industries of semiconductor lighting. In June 2003, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units joined the Beijing, Shanghai and other places to set up a national semiconductor lighting engineering leading group, Shanghai, Xiamen, Dalian and Nanchang became the first four national semiconductor lighting industrialization base.

According to the plan, Shanghai will strive to master the core technologies of all aspects of the semiconductor lighting industry by 2020, develop semiconductor lighting terminal application products with independent intellectual property rights, and form the Shanghai green lighting technology industry chain. At present, Shanghai Semiconductor Lighting Industry Base has formed a relatively complete industrial chain from substrate materials, epitaxy, chips, packaging to applications.

The 2008 Shanghai International LED Industry Technology Exhibition was held from May 9th to 11th. The exhibition was hosted by Shanghai Semiconductor Lighting Engineering Technology Research Center, co-organized by Japan's Sanchang Commercial Co., Ltd. and LED associations from Japan, Korea and other countries and regions.
