According to the Chinese Business Times, LCD backlight manufacturer Wellypower has begun to show its success in entering the LED business. The company plans to expand its LED package production to 50 million chips in the second half of the year.
Wellypower used to focus on the production of cold cathode fluorescent lamps, and Wellypower began supplying LEDs in March last year. At the end of 2007, the monthly output reached 10-12 million. Wellypower also said that it will increase its monthly LED production to 20-30 million in 2008.
The company's rapid growth in LED business is due to the decline in traditional cold cathode fluorescent lamps in the field of LCD panel lighting. In addition to LEDs, Wellypower also uses hot cathode fluorescent lamp solutions. The company expects 10% of revenue this year to come from composite LED and hot cathode fluorescent lamps.
Wellypower expects revenue to rebound in the second quarter and re-list at the Taiwan Fair.
