TT electronics resistors fully enhance surge and pulse protection

TT Electronics has launched a complete line of wirewound resistors featuring the industry’s highest surge energy ratings, ranging from 2W to 7W. The WHS series is designed with flame-retardant materials and is ideal for various pulse applications, particularly for power supply designers who need line input resistors for start-up current limiting and protection. These resistors are engineered with a unique winding design that incorporates a high-purity ceramic substrate and an interference-fit end cap soldered at both ends. The resistor element is wound around the substrate and then soldered to the end caps. This construction allows them to handle high surge conditions during turn-on, discharge, or external surges, enhancing reliability while reducing PCB space usage and the need for additional components. The WHS2 model, rated at 2W, is the smallest in its class, offering a surge energy rating between 0.9J and 5.8J. Available models include 3W, 5W, and 7W, with resistance values up to 330 ohms and surge energy as high as 60J. A 10W version is currently in development, aiming to outperform competitors across a broader range of power and resistance values. Designers can also choose from multiple options such as radius, post, pin, and SMD Z-pins, offering greater flexibility in application. All WHS resistors are coated with UL94-V0 flame-resistant insulation paint and operate reliably within a wide temperature range of -55°C to +155°C. They are available in standard roll-to-roll packaging and comply with RoHS standards, ensuring they are lead-free and environmentally friendly. A full range of WHS resistors will soon be available globally through TT Electronics’ distribution partners, Mouser and e-Community (with availability in China expected in late February).
